What’s Available
If your exclusion or cluster fencing was knocked around in the Western Queensland floods (March–May 2025), you could be eligible for up to $500,000 under the Exclusion Fencing Recovery Grants.
The funding’s there to help you repair or reinstate existing fences — and Southern Wire is ready to lend a hand. We’ll work with you and your local rural store to put together a grant-compliant quote, help gather the info you’ll need, and make sure it’s all in shape for approval.
- Up to $500,000 available
- 10% up front (up to $50,000) once your plan’s approved
- 100% reimbursement for eligible costs (materials, labour, freight, earthworks)
- Covers work already done since 21 March 2025
- Includes fencing, posts, wire, flood gates, mesh, machinery hire and more
Who Can Apply?
You may qualify if you:
- Run a sheep, cattle or goat grazing enterprise in one of these LGAs:
Balonne, Barcaldine, Barcoo, Blackall Tambo, Boulia, Bulloo, Diamantina, Longreach, Murweh, Paroo, Quilpie, Winton - Are GST registered and a registered landholder
- Had functional exclusion or cluster fencing in place before the floods
- Can show evidence of damage from the event
Already fixed sections since 21 March 2025? You may be able to claim those costs back.
What’s Covered?
- Southern Wire exclusion fencing — prefabricated mesh, posts, stays, wire, gates, panels, deterrent hardware
- Earthworks and fencing contractors
- Transport of materials
- Machinery hire and fuel/oil used in the works
- Upgrades for flood, fire, storm and corrosion resilience (within grant specs)
Grant minimums:
- Fence height ≥ 1.5 m, apron ≥ 300 mm, post spacing ≤ 8 m and wire spacings to exclude wild dogs
- Built to withstand flood, wind, fire and corrosion
- Alternatives can be approved for creeks, crossings etc.
Not covered: new fences where none existed, upgrading standard fences to exclusion fences, buying new machinery, admin time, pre-March 2025 costs, or anything already covered by insurance/other funding.

Yes, if the work was done on or after 21 March 2025 and meets the grant rules. Keep your tax invoices, receipts, and before/after photos.
Only existing exclusion or cluster fences that were in place and functional before the floods, and were damaged in the March–May 2025 event. New fences or upgrades from standard to exclusion fencing aren’t covered.
At least 1.5 m high, apron of 300 mm or more, posts no more than 8 m apart, and wire spacings that will wild dogs. It also needs to be built to stand up to flood, wind, fire and corrosion. We’ll make sure your quote meets this.
We can give you the materials list, specs, and photos you need for your Expression of Interest. You submit the actual application through RAPAD or Quilpie Shire Council.
No problem. We can work with your preferred contractor or suggest options in your area.
It depends on how quickly your application is lodged and approved. The grant body can pay up to 10% ($50,000 max) up front, with the rest reimbursed as you hit milestones.
Expressions of Interest must be in by 30 December 2025, works finished by 31 March 2027, and acquittals lodged by 30 April 2027.
No — we only supply through your local rural store. You tell us your preferred store, we prepare a compliant quote addressed to them, and they supply the gear.
